Intense Pulsed Light is used for the improvement of skin tone and colour and surface imperfections associated with aging and sun damage. Broken capillaries and general redness may also be treated. It is also useful in the treatment of rosacea, and in combination with ALA cream to manage acne. Different programmes allow targeting of different problems and a specific attachment is used for hair removal treatments.

A cold gel is initially applied. Limelight is fitted with a cooled window in contact with the skin allowing some pain relief. Patients may experience a mild stinging sensation as a pulse of light is delivered through the cold glass window. Repeated treatments may cause some tissue remodelling over time. The large treatment window of 10 x 30 mm allows treatment of large areas of skin relatively quickly.

After treatment, your skin may be red for a few hours. Brown spots will start to darken (like chocolate Milo) and after one to two weeks these spots will flake off in tiny scales and fade. Treatment time is less than one hour and two to five treatments are usually required at four week intervals.

The target for laser hair removal is the pigment in the relatively large hair bulbs deep in the skin. Various lasers and IPL devices can be used to target the pigmented hair bulb provided they penetrate deeply enough. Generally darker, thicker hair will respond best, whilst blond or red hair may not respond at all.

Our IPL device, can be used for hair removal with comparable results to most lasers. It is necessary to shave the skin first prior to treatment. Treatment can be painful, like being flicked with a stretched elastic band. Cold tips on the IPL reduce pain and help to protect the upper layers of skin from burning.
